Comrade Karmchand was born in a middle peasant household in the village of Banpura in Giridih. He was popularly known by the nickname Gandhi. In the early 80s Comrade Karmchand worked shoulder to shoulder with Comrade Mahendra Singh to build the Party in Giridih, through movements resisting severe police repression and feudal oppression. He was jailed for his role in these struggles, but never lost his dedication to the partys and peoples cause. When Comrade Mahendra Singh was in jail, it was Comrade Karmchands tireless efforts helped the partys Giridih unit host the 1982 Third Congress successfully. Six years ago Comrade Karmchand suffered a paralytic attack. He passed away on 12 May, 2019 leaving a void which cannot be filled. He is survived by his wife, four sons and a daughter. The Giridih District Party Committee flew the party flag at half mast on 13 May as a mark of respect to Comrade Karmchand Mahto. His cheerful personality, hard work and dedication will always be an inspiration for comrades.
Long live Comrade Karmchand Mahto!
